About SiO₂ Glass
SiO₂ Glass was founded by Hein van de Water in 1986 and continues to operate according to the same principles of craftsmanship and care.
The studio specialises in the restoration of stained glass and historic glass.
In addition, new stained glass panels are created and glass objects are conserved.
The studio
SiO₂ Glass is based on the Oudeweg in Groningen.
All work is carried out in the studio at Oudeweg 20 in Groningen.
The studio works for museums, churches, institutions and private clients.
Projects range from large-scale restoration campaigns to small-scale object treatments.
In addition, large-scale newly commissioned stained glass projects are undertaken.
Each assignment is approached with respect for the object and its context.
Approach and principles
The preservation of original material is central to all work.
Interventions are kept to a minimum and carried out in a reversible manner wherever possible.
Not every situation requires full restoration.
In consultation, a suitable and responsible approach is determined.
All treatments are carefully recorded and documented.
Continuity
SiO₂ Glass has developed from a long-standing practice in glass restoration and glassworking.
The studio builds upon existing knowledge and experience.
Craftsmanship, care and restraint form its guiding principles.
